Here in the UK, we take the internet for granted on a daily basis. We can find practically any piece of information we want, when we want, by simply visiting Google. But what if things were different. What if you couldn’t read up about world politics or world news. What if you couldn’t even check what your friends have been up to on Facebook! Internet freedom is seen as more of a social right than a privilege and yet a surprising amount of countries buck this trend. Yes, we do have a degree of internet censorship here in the UK, but this is mainly to combat digital piracy.

Usually, when we think of restricted internet access we think of the great firewall of China. The infographic below tells a vastly different story, with most countries in the east having moderate to severe restriction on the information and media available on the world wide web.
